Enhancing reception, facilitating integration, raising awareness of refugee related issues in Latvia
With the support of UNHCR we are implementing a project with the aim of promoting the protection of the rights of beneficiaries of international protection in Latvia. The project consists of six closely linked activities:
(1) protection monitoring to gather quantitative and qualitative data on the situation of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia and border and asylum seeker reception monitoring to support the authorities with enhancement of protection-sensitive border management and safe, accessible and transparent border crossing procedures;
(2) community engagement, empowerment of elderly Ukrainian refugees, empowerment of refugee community activists, refugee led organisations and NGOs, especially among the Ukrainian community, promoting mutual assistance;
(3) provision of information at the NGO information point at the Riga Support Centre for Ukrainian residents to promote their integration;
(4) advocacy interventions to improve the availability and quality of services for the beneficiaries of international protection in Latvia, putting emphasis on the partnership and coordination with NGOs and other relevant actors to promote a systemic approach to reception and integration;
(5) individual integration support through provision of social mentor services to beneficiaries of international protection on return to Latvia and/or after the expiration of state-funded support mechanisms, if support is still needed;
(6) communication activities to raise public awareness of integration processes and challenges to refugee protection.
Project period: January 2024 – December 2024.
